Comment of the MFA of Ukraine Spokesman on the situation at the Transniestrian segment of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border

On March 17, 2006 the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of the Transniestrian region adopted the decision on acceptance of carriers and loads to the Transniestrian Moldovan Republic. In accordance with this document the Transniestrian side yesterday at 23:40 p.m. stopped blocking the movement at the cross points “Platonovo – Goianul Nou” and “Kuchurgan -Pervomaysk” and started the admission of carriers and loads through the border.  

As for 11:00 on March 17, 2006 through the cross point “Platonovo–Goianul Nou” 12 trucks and 47 persons were admitted to cross state border and to leave Ukraine.

37 persons were admitted to enter to Ukraine. 

8 tracks, 1431 persons, 444 cars and 11 mini-buses were admitted to enter to Ukraine through the state border at the cross point “Kuchurgan-Pervomaysk”.

16 tracks, 2185 persons, 552 cars, 21 mini-buses were admitted to leave Ukraine.

The Ukrainian side positively assesses the Transniestrian side’s actions. These actions are the proof of the normalization of the situation at the Ukrainian-Moldovan border.  

We are also looking for constructive steps from the Transniestrian side, including those of registering and fulfilling custom procedures regarding Transniestrian agents of external economic activity.
